Chiropractors are concerned with a condition known as "subluxations". To understand what a subluxation is, we must learn about our spine first. The spinal column is an intricate framework of interlocking bones that, when viewed from the side, form a gentle "S" shape. The spine is a sophisticated system-both fragile and sturdy-of muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, discs, a spinal cord, and nerves. Daily activities such as lifting and exercise, or traumatic experiences such as automobile accidents, can sometimes cause obvious, and at other times, subtle, problems with your spinal cord.

When pressure is applied on a nerve in your spine, the nerve energy is interrupted, and sometimes this can profoundly affect the function of other systems or organs in your body.

when to seek care.
If it weren't for our remarkable nervous system, we might never know about most serious problems, or be able to correct them before they get worse.

You may benefit from chiropractic care and treatment if:

  • You have developed any kind of pain in your joints or skeletal structures such as your neck, back, shoulder blades, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, or ankles.
  • You have developed problems walking, such as erratic movement, loss of rhythm or difficulty with your balance; this may be a sign of muscle weakness or other problem.
  • You have developed sensory problems such as numbness, tingling, burning, or localized pain.

techniques.
Here are some of the chiropractic techniques we use everyday in our office:

DIVERSIFIED TECHNIQUE: Diversified technique is the most common technique used by chiropractors to employ the Chiropractic adjustment. This is the old-fashion chiropractic treatment, which involves manipulating the spine and extremities using a precisely controlled force with the practitioners hand.

THOMPSON TECHNIQUE: Thompson technique is a low-force technique using drop table pieces to assist with the Chiropractic adjustment. Generally this is a very gentle yet very effective means of correcting the spinal misalignments.

UPPER  CERVICAL TECHNIQUE:
Upper Cervical technique is also a very specific technique used by Chiropractors. With this technique only the atlas (the top vertebra) is adjusted. This is the most powerful adjustment to the nervous system, here there are more muscle and joint receptors than in the entire body. Usually this technique employs a specific toggle recoil of the upper neck while the patient is lying on their side.

ACTIVATOR TECHNIQUE:
Activator technique is a low-force technique using a small instrument to make the Chiropractic adjustment. This technique can be used to adjust the entire spine and extremities, but generally is used in acute conditions, the elderly, children, or when higher force techniques can't be used.
